The French Alps In Bloom

Flower, Le Grand Bornand, French Alps

Having spent a lot of time on 500px recently I’ve seen a lot of shots with flowers very close in the foreground, giving way to a beautiful mountain backdrop. They seem to be pretty popular and it’s not hard to see why!

Using them as inspiration I was looking for some bright foreground colours while exploring the Col de la Colombière in the French Alps. After a few minutes of searching I spotted these flowers, but during my first few attempts there was a strong wind which created an undesirable blurry foreground.

My legs were getting tired from crouching down holding my camera 6 inches above the ground. I didn’t have a tripod with me so I had to hold position to take advantage of that moment when the wind disappeared. Fortunately that moment came, and I was right there ready to get this shot.

I love the greens and blues of the alps in summer, they create so many such heavenly scenes, especially when the light cooperates. Thanks for stopping by!

It really does give a great perspective and lead in doesn’t it. Ben I feel your pain… my knees get so stiff crouching down for close up photos that I need to work out just to get fit for photography!

Thanks Kaz. I know what you mean, despite my age I don’t have the best knees and it can get pretty uncomfortable! It’s normally worth it in the end though.

Just lots of practice and looking at many other photos! Although I wouldn’t describe my shots as as pro, I’m just an amateur enjoying photography in my spare time 🙂

I’m sure you’ll find plenty of spots now that the summer is here! I hope you have a great time in the mountains Lucy. It was Austria this time if I remember correctly?

Thanks Kan, I often find a simple green landscape with a blue sky can be a bit boring. Getting up close to some flowers like this is a great way to solve that problem!

My husband is in this region currently. If this is what he’s getting to see, I’m sooo jealous! I agree… green landscape with blue skies can get boring in photographs (how jaded are we?!) the flowers add a nice interest.

Haha, I guess it probably is! Is he visiting for business or pleasure? He might not get much chance to see it! That would be a pity. I guess after spending so much time looking at photos we’re always looking for that extra bit of interest to make an image stand out.

Fantastic shot, well worth your balancing efforts! Love, love, love the pop of colors the flowers provide. Now I just want to go lay out a blanket in that meadow and have a picnic, with a loaf of french bread, fresh cheese, and a bottle of wine 😉

Thanks Stacy, it was definitely worth the trouble in the end. And that sounds like the perfect way to spend an afternoon! Along with a little more photography of course 😉
