Weekly Photo Challenge: Habit

Geneve, Switzerland

I’m pretty sure that right now I have the best commute to work I will ever have in my life. In fact I’d probably say that it’s the best part of my day. Every morning of the working week I walk twenty minutes to my office, flanked on my right (or left on the route home) by Lake Geneva and the Rhône river. It certainly beats commuting on the underground network in London! And is the perfect inspiration for this week’s photo challenge.

It’s a fairly peaceful journey despite the nearby road. But in the early days I would always listen to music for the duration. Recently I’ve found myself more likely to ditch the headphones and just appreciate the calming sound of the nature that surrounds me. It’s a great way to start the day and something that I’m really going to miss whenever I come to move away from Geneva and its beautiful lake.

I really need to start making the most of the scenery in the early morning light, especially now the sun is rising later in the winter. But at the moment I’m in the habit of leaving home as late as possible. I always say to myself that I should make the effort to get up earlier and spend some time taking photographs on the journey. But to date it’s never happened! Fortunately I’ve taken plenty of shots at the weekend to make up for it.

Do you have a great commute? Any interesting views to take in or observations during your habitual routines? I’d love to hear from you!

Thanks Jude, appreciate your comments as always 🙂 That effect was based on a preset in iPhoto that doesn’t have a counterpart in Lightroom, I really like it too! I’ve been trying to recreate it in Lightroom since I made the switch but unfortunately without much success.

Bloody amazingly awesome route to work! Not envious at at – much! So so beautiful, what a lovely ‘habit’ to have. My habit is coffee, that’s it really. Wonderful shots too – as usual – you are very good at capturing the image that says it all.

Haha, thanks Nancy. I’m really lucky with my route and try not to take it for granted. I’m glad you enjoyed the shots. Coffee is not such a bad habit to have either! I’ve never been a fan myself, but always think it must be great in the morning to give you a bit a of a kick start.

I need to get back to riding my bike when the weather becomes warmer. The commute is a wooded bicycle trail with no honking horns or aggressive drivers.

It is indeed! The Jet d’Eau. I’m planning a post on that one in the near future, it’s such a fantastic feature! And I have so many photos of it since it’s on all day and right in the middle of the lake here. Do you have any great fountains nearby?

I took the liberty of updating your original post, I hope you don’t mind 🙂

I don’t mind, I was like noooo, one grammar mistake 😀 I don’t have them nearby 😦 I wish I did. But in the Advent time, I’m gonna try to go in the city and capture pre-holiday atmosphere, which includes decorated fountains, trees etc. 🙂
